Dominican Republic Missions Team Hits the Island
A team of 17 CCA students and 2 chaperones traveled to the Dominican Republic for missions work during spring break in March 2018.
The group volunteered at 5 different churches and served hot meals to the local children through nutrition centers. Our team led 3 songs and taught John 3:16 in English. Dominican and Haitian children LOVE jump rope and soccer. Our students focused on building personal one on one friendship with the children through fun activities.
Students shared their experience at Calvary Chapel San Diego and encouraged many through their testimony.
“I believed that love could break all barriers, but through the Missions trip I learned that it’s the love of God who does it; For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life”- Niko Figueroa
“We visited a community built on a landfill. Imagine trash everywhere and a dirty river running through the middle. This community had over 1,000 people with more than half being children. This small village shared one toilet that a mission’s team built for them recently. There was one lady who was in charge of keeping a key to the bathroom and maintaining it clean for the entire town. She was so proud to be the key-keeper. I was incredibly motivated by her joy and the pride she had to be the bathroom monitor. I saw a light in her that encourages me to be the light at my school here in San Diego.”- Katarina Sanchez
“God spoke to me through the model of the church in the Dominican Republic. It’s not about the walls that make up a church building; it’s about what happens outside of the four walls. How can I bring the church into my community? That’s what I took away from the trip. I want to love everyone who is outside of the church and hopefully through personal interaction bring the church to them”. – Isaac Escamilla
